  • Orange Tabby Cat Get Medical Help and Finds Home at Lake Desire  - Thanks to Dorothy Paun for catching this cat and taking it to the vet a few days ago. The vet said the kitty was likely hit by a car AND bit by a large animal, but has no broken bones, and is responding well to the treatments so far.  She’s agreed to pay the vet costs of the kitty (everything including neutering and vaccinations), and will visit him each night. A huge thanks also goes to our neighbor Denise Fischer-Fortier for adopting this tabby kitty when he is out of the vet’s office.  Thanks to VCA Five Corners Animal Hospital for keeping this cat alive (he is not walking yet but is eating and recovering). Submitted by Dorothy, to.e@comcast.net and adopted by Denise ffortier@comcast.net
  • Message from Lake Desire Community Club President, Vi Anderson - Since last Friday's fire on top of the mountain, it has come to my attention that we need to come together as a community to be better informed and more prepared. The only way to do this is to work together.  Your Community Club needs more participation.  We are going to begin working on programs to try and ensure the safety of our area and we need your input.  We will be having an information meeting listed below.  Please be sure to attend this meeting or send your input to Kathy Shertz,  katshertz@q.com.  In the meantime, if you have questions or suggestions, you can also contact our Secretary at heather@smith.net.
  • Emergency Preparedness Meeting – Kathy Shertz has invited neighbors to her home for an Emergency Preparedness meeting on Tuesday, August 4th at 7pm.  She lives at 18533 W. Lake Desire Dr SE, 425-228-8666, katshertz@q.com.  Please RSVP if you think you can make it. Kathy said KC Parks is posting "Fire Danger/no smoking" etc signs at park trailheads this week.  She asked them to put some around the open space on the other side of the lake as well. She is hoping to have a Fire Rep there as well to help us plan.
  • Thanks to Local Firefighters - Our recent fire was controlled by the Wildland fire crew from MT. VIEW FIRE & RESCUE out of east Auburn.  They did a terrific job!  Kathy Shertz took them a large box of "goodies", a thank you card from her and John, the Lake Desire Community Club and KC Parks.  She also provided them with a CD of 21 photos of the fire site she took on 7/21.   They were very appreciative.  If anyone would like to send them an e-mail of thanks their address is: jscott@kcfd44.org  Kathy also took a box/card/CD to FD 43 in Maple Valley and met with crew on duty night of fire.  Great guys! Other neighbors have taken cookies, etc to the FD 40 office on Petrovitsky.  Submitted by Kathy Shertz, katshertz@q.com
  • Open Space Update – SEATTLE TIMES  7/21/09  OPEN-SPACE ISSUE TO GO TO VOTERS - King County voters will decide Nov. 3 whether to give additional protection to more than 150,000 acres of forest and other open space already protected by the county.  The Metropolitan King County Council voted unanimously Monday to put a charter amendment on the ballot that would make it more difficult--but not impossible--for future county councils to sell or allow development of any of 95 specified properties the county owns outright or on which it owns development rights.  Under the amendment, a supermajority vote of seven of nine council members would be required to remove a property from the new list of protected properties.  Currently, five council members could take an action that would lead to development.
